PB Travel Journal: Jodhpur

Blog_Cover_Mar18

Set amidst the endless Thar Desert is Jodhpur, which is also famously known as ‘The Blue City.’ “The houses in old Jodhpur area are all coloured in ‘Blue’, hence the name. When seen from the top of the fort, the entire city looks really beautiful and in harmony” says Amoli, our team member who vacationed in the heritage city with her friend. Along with that, what really mesmerized her was the regally inspired art and culture that still dwells in the city, attractive handicrafts and the warmth with which people receive you.

What to look out for?

The Mehrangarh Fort displays the rich heritage of the Maharajas who once lived there. There are various collectibles and antique accessories on display which were once used by the residents.

Umaid Bhavan Palace is where Maharaja Gaj Singh of Jodhpur currently resides. A part of it is inhabited by the royals while the rest of the palace is turned into a hotel. The interiors are indeed gorgeous!

Clock tower is another place frequented by visitors that is located in the middle of a day market. The tower is surrounded by local sellers of ethnic clothing, jewelry, fabrics, spices, footwear, carpets and many more household things. It’s truly a shopper’s haven!

To hang out, there is a really good place called ‘Dagley’ which means ‘Rooftop’ in Marwari and is situated in the middle of old Jodhpur near the fort area. The rooftop displays the fort in full view and a part of the city. You can just sit here and chill all day long with your friends.

Where to stay?

Find a friend who lives in Jodhpur. There is nothing better than a Marwari’s house! The hospitality, the food, the family; no hotel can match those levels.

Where to shop?

There are little markets all over Jodhpur and you can shop for juttis/mojaris, rich Rajasthani fabrics, ethnic jewelry, handcrafted bags, artifacts and all of it at a pretty reasonable rate, provided you have good bargaining skills.

Where to eat?

As I was living at my friend’s place ‘maa(aunty) ke haath ka khana’ was the best! She makes the best gatte ki sabzi and mirchi ka achaar.

Jodhpur’s street food is to die for too. You get the most amazing  Mirchi vadas, Pyaaz ki kachori, Bread pakoras and many such unhealthy yet savoury snacks; around every corner of the city. Also, I have eaten the world’s best Gulab Jamuns which are made at this local sweet shop ‘Ras Sagar’.

There are also many heritage clubs in Jodhpur which serve really good food as well. So if you have a friend who is a member there, you can enter and enjoy a nice dinner.

Local restaurants serve various cuisines and I happened to like ‘Dagley’ a lot. It is a must visit as it serves really good food.

PB Travel Journal: Bali

bali_4

Our team member Pranali chose Bali as her honeymoon destination and described it as paradise for nature lovers. From scenic rice terraces to culturally rich temples and endless beaches, Bali urges you to click a picture of each place you visit. The touristy nature of the island has not deterred its intrinsic art and craft and that is what makes it one of the few places which is on every traveller’s bucket list.

What to look out for?

Pantai Pandawa beach is a must-visit! Tanah Lot is a beautiful rock formation and is also home to the ancient Hindu religious temple making it the perfect place to be in. Visit the Monkey Forest in Ubud and you will be transferred to where the visuals of a Jungle Book would have looked like. Beautiful and detailed sculptures can be found everywhere in Bali with a peculiar feature of aggression on the face. Those who love water sports, head to Nusa Dua Beach. Uluwatu is another high altitude area which is very very scenic and is considered one of the best surfing places in the world. The Balinese cultural dance is something that you should definitely witness. Live music is also very prevalent here.

Where to stay?

You can stay at the beach facing property of Kuta Heritage. Hotel Four Points By Sheraton, Seminyak is another luxe hotel to stay in. Kuta and Seminyak are the best places to stay as everything is nearby. Kuta is also the main city area and a party hub. Definitely try out the spas here.

Where to shop?

Seminyak is full of brands and there are a couple of upscale malls in Kuta too. Tanah Lot is where you can shop on the streets. Get beautiful batik fabrics, intricate silver ware and elaborate wood carvings in Ubud, Celuk and Seminyak. While at that don’t forget to tour through the silver art galleries.

Where to eat?

Balinese cuisines include Bebek betutu and Babi guling. Indonesian delicacies such as Nasi and Mei Goreng are also something you should definitely try. Jimbaran Beach is very famous for sunset dinners and Kuta is famous for drinks.

Food Parade At PB!

cover

Be it Christmas parties or National days, we celebrate everything with pomp at PB. So, taking inspiration from the Republic Day Parade we did a food parade of sorts, a day prior to 26th January here at our PB office. Each team member got a special cuisine from her/his state of origin and introduced it with a hand-written note. There were Handvas from Gujrat, Gujias from Uttar Pradesh, Misal Pav from Maharashtra, Dahi Bhalla from Delhi, Cake from Goa et al. Cuisines across India were at display and our workstations quickly transformed in to buffet tables 😀

And while we celebrated cultural diversity, what we did more was Eat, Eat and EAT at this Food Parade 🙂 Here’s looking at the delectable spread.

Team PB Resolution

cover

What’s your 31st plan and what’s your New Year resolution are two congruent questions that cannot really be apart from each other for long. As the former part has quickly gone by, let’s focus on the latter part which allows us to set renewed goals for an entire year.

We at Pipa + Bella decided to ask a few members for their 2018 Resolutions and they have generously obliged:

nature-07.jpg

“In 2018, I have resolved to be kinder to myself, others and the environment. I am proud to be a part of the millennials for all that we have achieved in the last few decades in terms of technological progress, but I do believe that despite our over-connectedness we have failed to focus on important social issues like discrimination against the other, promoting inner peace, and most of all showing respect to Mother Nature and all of its elements like the air we breathe, wildlife, marine life, etc. I think if we each make a little time everyday to change the status-quo, we can make far more progress as a generation!” ~ Shivani Pandya(VP Merchandising)

“I really want to travel around. So my resolution this year would be to plan my leaves better and travel more often :)” ~ Amoli Shah(Junior Merchandiser)

“Every year when I make a new year’s resolution , I follow for at least 1 week or utmost a month. Later I forget as the time passes, but this time I want to stand firm on my resolutions. So here are they:
1. To keep fulfilling my commitments because I usually forget them.
2. Become more disciplined about my work and health.
3. Spend less and save more  because I have been spending a lot of money lately.” ~ Aayushi Kambariya(Junior Front-end Engineer)

Live in the Here and Now is my resolution. The present never returns and unlike the past, it’s the only thing we can change :)”~ Nikita Fernandes(Senior Merchandiser)

Work harder and party even more harder is my resolution 😀 ~ Ishaan Vandoor(Senior Customer Experience Manager)

My resolution for the new year is to get back to gym and not quit. Take care of my health and be absolutely healthy. ~ Sneha Prasad(Junior Brand Manager)

In addition to these resolutions, we have our resolution Karma Bangles for company 🙂

Go ahead, tell us what’s your resolution for 2018?

Raising A Toast To A Great Year!

cover_final

What a great year it has been! While we are reminiscing this year’s joyous moments, there have also been some hurdles that we have successfully overcome. Like we have always said, all this has been possible because of our awesome customers and wonderful team. With the festive cheer still lingering on, we want to step in 2018 with a joyful recollection of our favourite moments:

Customize Your Jewels

We wanted to give our customers the liberty to design their own products and create bespoke baubles. Aimed with this agenda, we launched Jewel Lab and Gem Bar where you can decide the color of your jewelry and create your very own unique piece.

Sterling Silver Jewelry

Pipa + Bella was started with the philosophy to offer jewelry to each one of you. By stepping in the realm of Sterling Silver Jewelry, we could truly explore and experiment with 9 to 5 Jewelry. Today’s working woman treats jewelry as a way of expression and we have aimed to portray just that with our finely crafted silver jewelry designs.

Karma Bangles

Karma Bangles have definitely become an integral part of us. We launched two installments of Karma Bangles in 2017, one being quotes and the other being resolutions which were both well-received.

Namrata Soni X PB

A gorgeous collection of in-your-bag pouches, convertible clutches and a vanity box was the result of a collaboration with the celebrated Bollywood makeup artist Namrata Soni. Armed with pretty florals and available in attractive colors, this NSxPB collection offers maximum storage space and is travel friendly too.

Laurels

It was a proud moment for us when Pipa + Bella won the Google SMB Heroes Award and was listed as one of the Top 25 Startups by Singapore’s Startup-O Javelin Fund. We were also rewarded for Digital Women in E-Commerce.

More Fun Days At Work. Yayyy 😀

Because after all the hard work, we wanted some fun time too. So we collectively decided to organize more activities like Rainbow Day, Twinning Day, Quiz, Pictionary etc… and we have decided to continue this tradition further.

Lastly, here’s wishing you all a Happy and Joyous New Year 😀
